Dental anxiety is a common ailment that affects many people. This anxiety tends to be increased when they are undergoing an actual dental procedure, rather than just a cleaning or x rays. This is why it is so important to know precisely what you should do in the hours before your surgery.

On the day of your dental implant procedure the following guidelines will help you prepare and relax.

  • Come as a blank slate
It is important that you remove all jewelry, dentures and contact lenses before you arrive for your procedure. We also suggest not wearing makeup as that mascara doesn’t tend to stay in place when you are under sedation.
  • Be in good health
If you have recently come down with the flu or a cold, it is important that your dentist know this. Having surgery when you are ill is never a good idea and an another appointment may need to be may.
  • Disclose all medications to your dentist
Your dentist needs to know if and what kind of oral medication you are taking. Sedation can be affected by very simple things and the last thing your dentist wants is for you to experience any kind of pain.
  • Don’t Eat or Drink
Just like any other surgery, it is important to not eat or drink within 6 hours of your appointment.
  • Have a Buddy
Bring someone with you when you come for your procedure. Not only is it nice to have the moral support but you will need a reliable ride once you come out of sedation.
