4 Reasons Not To Vape

All over the country, people are switching from cigarettes to vaping, thinking that it is healthier for them. However, vaping still has some serious side effects. Many of those side effects affect your oral health.

So, here are four reasons you should NOT vape.

1 – Irreversible issues

The oral cavity tends to be one of the most resilient tissues in our body. This means when you injure it, it tends to heal very quickly. However, when it is repeatedly traumatized, it cannot heal anymore. When you are vaping, you are essentially traumatizing your mouth every day.

Unfortunately, if you let dental issues linger while vaping this means that you may not be able to fully heal from them.

2- Increase in cavities

Have you been vaping lately? Notice that you’ve had more cavities at your dental appointments.

You might think that you only get cavities from drinking lots of soda or coffee and eating lots of sweets, but you can get cavities from vaping too. While it is not the act of vaping that is causing the cavities, it is the acidity of the flavor of the vape juice that causes them. Exposing your teeth to something every day just further increases the chances of cavities.

3 – Periodontal disease

Dentists are seeing periodontal disease in younger and younger patients, likely due to the popularity of vaping. The average patient diagnosed with periodontal disease was an adult and now that age range skews much lower. Periodontal disease is the infection/inflammation of your gums and the bone around your teeth. It looks bad and feels worse.

One of the scariest things about periodontal disease is that it has been linked to an increase in strokes. So not only does it affect your gums and your teeth, but it can also have a serious, lasting impact on your overall health.

4 – Added bacteria in your mouth

When you are constantly hitting a vape, the bacteria in your mouth get stressed out. Instead of being good bacteria to fight off disease, they are bacteria that cause inflammation. In addition to that, you may be more susceptible to catching other diseases due to the vulnerable state of your mouth.

Many people think that vaping is a safer alternative to smoking cigarettes, and it just does not appear to be the case. Regardless of whether you vape or not, make sure you are visiting your dentist regularly and staying on top of your dental hygiene.
