5 Local Summer Activities in DC

Dr. Thomas Bursich • July 12, 2022

We are officially in the peak of summer with steady sun, warm temperatures, and long days. While the weather is nice and the kids are out of school, take advantage of some of the local activities the Washington DC area has to offer.

Here are five things you can do locally:

1 – Visit Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens

One of the best places to see all the blooming beauty in the district is Kenilworth Gardens. With flowers experiencing peak bloom until late August, there is still time to visit and take a stroll through the gardens. There will be lots of opportunities for pictures with various flowers.

2 – Go on an Ice Cream tour

Ice cream is an essential part of summer. We all have fond memories of grabbing ice cream in a hot da with our friends or family. It can be the best treat while you are out. With so many different ice cream places available, pick a few to try this summer and make it a goal to go on an ice cream tour. We guarantee you will have fun and you might even find a new favorite spot. Just don’t forget to brush your teeth after!

3 – See an Improv Show

Comedy can be really helpful especially when things are feeling heavy. If you like comedy, especially stand up, we recommend catching a show at the DC Improv. They offer shows all throughout the week so you could make it a midweek date night. If you can’t make it all the way to DC, there is also an improv theater in Leesburg called Tally Ho that has some shows this summer.

4 – Go to a Baseball Game

Seeing a Nationals game should be on every local’s summer bucket list. It is the perfect way to support your local team, hang out with friends, and grab a drink or bite to eat. If you get to the stadium early you can stop by the Bullpen for some pregame drinks. Games are held at all times – weekend or weekday, so

you have plenty of opportunities to see a game.

5 – Spend the day in Alexandria

Alexandria is ideally located between Northern VA and Washington DC making it an easy spot to reach for people in both areas. You can make it there in 30-40 minutes which will leave you a full day of exploring Old Town where you can see old historic homes. After you walk around, head to King Street for shopping at some of the local boutiques. Grab lunch at one of the many cafes or restaurants and end your day down by the waterfront for drinks.

It is only July so there is still plenty of time to go exploring in your own city. Hopefully we’ve given you a few ideas for ways to spend the remaining summer weekends. After you plan your next adventure, make sure to schedule your biannual cleaning so you can get it out of the way before things get busy in the fall. Call us today to make an appointment!
