5 Spectacular Virginia Waterfalls

Spring is here in Virginia! One of the great advantages to living in Virginia is how close we are to a multitude of parks, hiking trails, and even waterfalls!



Now that we are facing weekends full of sun and warm weather, it is the perfect time to start planning some weekend nature getaways within driving distance. We have compiled a list of five stunning waterfalls in Virginia that you can easily drive to for a quick trip to nature. 


1 – Crabtree Falls

Located in Nelson County, Virginia Crabtree Falls is the longest and tallest waterfall in Virginia! It is not a traditional waterfall but is made up of several smaller cascades totaling 1,200 feet! The longest of the five cascades is 400 feet.

2 – Cascades Falls

Located in Pembroke Virginia, Cascades Falls is a 66-foot-tall waterfall complete with a swimming hole at the bottom!

3 – Apple Orchard Falls

Located in Buchanan Virginia at the end of short, but challenging trail is Apple Orchard Falls. This would be a great hike for people who hike often or love a more challenging trail!

4 – Bent Mountain Falls

Located in Montgomery Virginia in the Bottom Creek Gorge Preserve is Virginia’s second tallest waterfall. Walk along the 3.7-mile loop while enjoying the gorgeous views of the forest, meadows, and creek. There are several different hike options, depending on where you want to view the falls.

5 – Falling Springs Falls

Located in the Allegheny Highlands in Virginia is one of the most photographed waterfalls in the state. It is not the tallest, at only 80 feet, but it is viewable from the parking lot which makes it ideal for people who are not up to a long hike.

Any of these waterfalls would make a great weekend activity while the weather is nice. Pick one with a hike if you want to get in some exercise or head to Falling Springs if you just want to soak in the views. No matter which waterfall you choose, we know you won’t be disappointed!
