5 Foods to Eat for Healthy Teeth

We have talked a lot about what foods to avoid or limit for the sake of your teeth (soda, sugar, candy) and we all know that reducing your intake of these types of food will help with your dental health. While it is good to remember which foods can harm our teeth, it is also important to know which foods are good to eat!

Here are our favorite five food to eat for healthy teeth.

1 – Dairy products

Cheese and yogurt specifically are great for our teeth because of all the calcium. Calcium is essential for bones and teeth! Try to find Greek yogurt or regular yogurt that are plain and sugar free. Remember you can always make yogurt more fun by adding some fresh fruit.

Yogurt also has probiotics that can not only help with the good bacteria in your body, but also help balance out the levels of oral flora in your mouth.

2 – Apples

Apples are incredibly fibrous and help you practice your chewing. The chewing and crunching that goes along with apples helps stimulate saliva production, which reduces bacteria and tooth decay.

An added bonus for apples is that they are an incredibly portable snack: you can take them with you anywhere you go!

3 – Nuts and seeds

Nuts and seeds are one of the most underrated healthy snacks. They have benefits for almost every aspect of your body. Nuts rich in omega-3 fatty acids help with healthy gum tissue and they are great for the heart. They can even help reduce cholesterol levels!

Make sure to look for plain nuts or lightly salted nuts. It is best to avoid any flavored nuts or candied nuts. Some great options are walnuts, peanuts, pumpkin seeds.

4 – Carrots

Another healthy crunchy treat is carrots. They require lots of biting and chewing, stimulating both gum tissue and getting rid of plaque. Carrots are notorious for having lots of vitamin A and Keratin, which help with your skin, gums, and teeth.

Carrots are just overall an amazing snack option and they come in so many different versions!

5 – Dark Chocolate

Don’t worry, there is a sweet treat you can have that is also healthy for your mouth! Dark chocolate tends to have less sugar than its other chocolate counterparts and is a natural antioxidant.
