3 Ways to Replace a Tooth - Part 1
There are a lot of things that stink: getting a flat tire, missing an appointment and paying a no-show fee, breaking a heel on your way to work. Just above all those things is losing a tooth. Whether it happens in an accident or because of neglect, a missing tooth, or even worse missing teeth, can be annoying.
While not necessarily a medical emergency, a missing tooth can make people feel very self-conscious especially depending on the location of the missing tooth.
At Sterling Dental Center, we can help you get your confidence and your smile back! Here are three ways to replace a tooth.
DENTAL IMPLANT
What is it?
A dental implant is a secure and stable way to replace one tooth or multiple teeth. A dental implant is one of the most realistic options for a missing tooth. They look and feel like an actual tooth, so it is hard to tell that it is an implant.
Implants can take awhile from start to finish since you first have to surgically input the implants, then custom make the replacement tooth / teeth, then apply them. It is also a costly option.
How does it work?
Implants are posts that are put in between missing teeth on the top or bottom jaw. They are put in surgically and because of this are not an option for every patient. Once you have an implant in, we will make a crown, bridge, or denture to put on top of the titanium post.
Benefits?
Implants are the most like a natural tooth. Because of the materials they are made of, they can last for a long time.
BRIDGE
What is it?
A bridge, or fixed bridge, fills the space left from a missing tooth. It is a permanent fixture that only a dentist can insert or remove.
How does it work?
First, we prepare the teeth surrounding the area without a tooth by cutting down the other teeth. After that, we take an impression of your mouth so that we can create a custom bridge to later insert. In the meantime, we will apply a temporary bridge.
After your custom bridge is made (from metal, ceramics, or glass-ceramics), we will cement it into your mouth.
Benefits?
A bridge is a more cost-effective option. It does not require additional cleaning and feels like natural teeth.
