In our last post , we talked about two of the ways we replace a missing tooth at Sterling Dental Center: implants and bridges. Now, we will cover the third option: removeable dentures. All three options are viable ways to replace a tooth, but which one you use will depend on your health and budget.

REMOVEABLE DENTURES

What is it?

Replacement teeth attached to a plastic base. Dentures are made to match the colors of your gums to look more natural. Removeable dentures have metal clasps that attach to your teeth.

These clasps can occasionally be seen within your mouth, so this option is not the most seamless.

Removeable dentures do require some maintenance. You should take them out each night and clean them. They are more prone to breaking than other options. Because they are not permanently fixed in your mouth, you may lose them or need to fix them.

How does it work?

During your dental visit, we will fit you for your dentures and pick a gum color that matches your natural gums. While the dentures are made, we will give you a temporary set of dentures so that you have something to fill the gap(s).

When your dentures are ready, we will spend time going over how to put in your new dentures with you. They can feel weird at first, but over time, they will become more comfortable. Make sure not to wear them an entire day; you’ll want to take them out at night and clean them.

Benefits?

Removeable dentures are very cost effective, often costing less than implants or bridges. Dentures are also easier to repair than implants or bridges. In fact, some repairs can be done within a day.

The Bottom Line

All three of these options should be considered when thinking about replacing a missing tooth. If you are driven by cost, then removeable dentures are the best option. If you are not in good health, implants might not be the best option for you since you do need surgery.

If you are missing one tooth, removeable dentures are not the best option, but a bridge or implant would work well. Finding the best option will rely on you as a person and what you need to replace.

Missing a tooth, or teeth, can really affect a person’s self esteem and less superficially, how they eat and chew. If you are missing any teeth and are ready to start fixing them, call Sterling Dental Center today!
