Dr. Bursich takes great pride in helping his patients keep their teeth and gums healthy. Gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss. When gum disease is left untreated for too long and is not treated, there is no more support for the tooth causing bad bacteria to eat away at the gum and bone that supports the tooth root.
Only a dental professional can diagnose and treat gum disease. Other health conditions can predispose a person to having gum disease, diabetes, heart disease.
At our Sterling dental clinic, we offer non-surgical treatment to remove detrimental oral bacteria through scaling and root planing (or “Deep Cleaning”). Our hygienist is excellent and she takes care to keep our patients as comfortable as possible while striving for thorough and complete gum disease treatments.
After the procedure, Dr. Bursich and his staff provide a careful regimen of home care for you to ensure its continued effectiveness. Repeat visits in two weeks and 90 days are recommended so that Dr. Bursich can check the progress and make sure that your gums are healing properly.
Warning signs of gum disease are:
A healthy lifestyle, proper dental hygiene techniques and regular visits to the dentist are the best ways to keep your gums healthy and to avoid gum disease.
When you come in for your routine cleaning, Dr. Bursich performs a periodontal check and measures the cuff of tissue around your gums, alerting you to the health of your gums surrounding each tooth.
Gum disease can be treated in different methods, depending on the severity of the gum.
Gum disease is the #1 cause of adult tooth loss in the US. Factors that contribute to gum disease include poor oral hygiene, irregular professional dental cleanings, smoking or chewing tobacco, certain medications, defective fillings, crooked teeth and systemic diseases. Gum disease is caused by damaging bacteria build-up in your mouth. In a healthy state, the gums around your teeth are tight, pink, do not bleed when probed, and there is little space between the gums and the teeth for bacteria to build up. If the bacteria is not removed effectively, the first stage of gum disease may cause your gums to bleed and become red and swollen (gingivitis). This may not be readily visible, especially in between and around the back teeth, but the space between the gums and teeth becomes bigger, giving bacteria populations somewhere to hide.
As the space (pocket) deepens, the bacteria change in nature and become more aggressive. Your body starts to fight this infection. The combination of the bacteria and your body’s response to them, leads to a loss of the bone that supports the teeth. This is periodontal disease or periodontitis (periodontitis — a word that comes from the combination of the smaller words: “per” meaning around, “dont” meaning tooth and “itis” meaning inflammation or infection).
Therefore, the most important thing to do is correctly diagnose the presence and severity of gum disease. We test your gums for signs of gum disease and severity and then create an appropriate treatment plan intended to prevent the spread and progression of the disease.

Went in for my 6 month check up and everyone I saw took great care of me. Nelson did my cleaning. He was extremely gentle as he knows I have very sensitive teeth. Highly recommend this dental office!!Posted on Team KamatoyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a really great experience overall. Dr. Azim (or Asim—my apologies if I’m spelling it wrong) was excellent, and I truly felt that he cared about me as a patient. The day before, I saw another dentist at a different clinic who quickly looked at my tooth and told me I needed a root canal and crown, quoting me over $1,700 with my Aetna High Dental PPO. In contrast, Dr. Azim took his time to properly assess my broken tooth. He did a careful exam—some scraping and tapping—and since I wasn’t in pain, he explained that I might not actually need a root canal. He basically saved my tooth and my wallet—lol. Their clinic also doesn’t overcharge. Truly a blessing. I did have to come back the next day because there was an issue with the temporary crown that was supposed to be placed during my first visit. I realized when I got home that it wasn’t actually there, which meant my tooth was left exposed. To be fair, the first dental assistant was pleasant, and I could tell she was trying her best—she may have been time-pressured since it was close to closing. When I first called about the issue, there seemed to be some miscommunication, and I was initially given information that didn’t align with what Dr. Azim had explained regarding the temporary crown. However, after I clarified that a temporary crown had been planned, they were very accommodating and asked me to come in right away. That said, they handled the situation really well. I was able to get an appointment the very next day within minutes of calling, and I was seen by another excellent dentist, Dr. Bursik (again, apologies if I’m spelling the name wrong). Dr. Bursik and his assistant were amazing—professional, kind, and efficient. The assistant was gentle and clearly very skilled; she was able to properly fit the temporary crown in just a couple of minutes, which was the complete opposite of my initial experience. Overall, despite the hiccup, I truly appreciate how the clinic handled the issue and the level of care provided by both dentists. I’ve already booked an appointment for my husband, and we will definitely be repeat customers!Posted on hannah stevensTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I am so happy with this dentist office!! Dr. Tammareddy was able to fit me in for a 9am emergency filling appointment that I booked at 10pm the night before. The fillings were done perfectly and she made me feel at ease through the whole process once I made her aware that I am not a fan of going to the dentist. She walked me through everything she was going to do and kept making sure I felt okay during the filling. I also loved the rest of the office staff!! Everyone was so welcoming and kind!!Posted on Robin ThomasTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It's a good dentist, the staff are awesomePosted on Ray XuTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Had a major billing communication issue where the front desk collected a family member's balance without my consent. However, the Office Manager Sarah reached out immediately, apologized, and resolved the situation professionally by refunding the charge and separating our accounts. I appreciate the swift resolution, but I hope they improve their front desk protocols.Posted on D. Paul JenningsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Dr. Bursich and his staff have been taking good care of me and my wife for years.
