Dr. Bursich is very experienced in performing needed tooth extractions. Most, including wisdom tooth extraction, can be done comfortably and gently in our Sterling dental office.
There are many forms of dental treatment which can be used to save a tooth, including root canal therapy, crowns and fillings. However, there are still some situations where it is necessary to extract one or more teeth to achieve better oral health and comfort for the patient. Dr. Bursich will explain the procedure to you prior to starting treatment and do everything possible to minimize the pain and the recovery time from the extraction. You can schedule a free consultation with Dr. Bursich. He will examine your teeth and gums and assess the best methods to return your teeth to full health and function.
Most often an extraction is done to solve a simple problem: the patient is in pain. Now that doesn’t mean that every toothache requires an extraction. It does mean that there are certain specific instances when it is optimum to remove the tooth rather than attempt another course of treatment:
Wisdom teeth – When a person enters their later teenage years, additional teeth start to grow in at the back of their mouths, one on each side of the upper and lower jaw. In most cases, the jaw bone is not large enough to accommodate wisdom teeth. Thus, when they do start to come in they often need to be removed. This is definitely not every case – some people retain their wisdom teeth all their lives. However, if the wisdom teeth begin to provide discomfort, the best solution is to remove them.
Impacted Teeth – An impacted tooth is one which remains fully or partially below the surface of the gums as it grows in. Such teeth can become infected and push against other teeth, creating inflammation or infections. Impacted teeth are removed for the overall health of the patient and to relieve the pain from the swelling and inflammation.
Crowded Teeth – There are times where teeth are too tightly crowded in a person’s mouth, and removing a tooth may simply make it easier to straighten or align the teeth. This would be done in combination with orthodontic treatment.
Health Concerns – We may also recommend a tooth be extracted simply for health purposes. If a tooth has severely decayed and becomes infected, it may be in the patient’s best interest to remove it entirely and have it replaced with a dental implant or a bridge.
Rest for 12 to 24 hours after a tooth extraction is recommended. The body is still recovering from the procedure while the anesthetic wears off. You will be able to remove the gauze from your mouth a few hours after the tooth extraction is complete, but certain activities including smoking, vigorous brushing and rinsing, and drinking liquids through straws are discouraged for the next 48 hours because they hinder healing and may cause the wound to open. If any swelling occurs, a cold compress can be applied to the outside cheek near the extraction area.
If you experience any of the following symptoms, you may have an impacted wisdom tooth:

Went in for my 6 month check up and everyone I saw took great care of me. Nelson did my cleaning. He was extremely gentle as he knows I have very sensitive teeth. Highly recommend this dental office!!Posted on Team KamatoyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a really great experience overall. Dr. Azim (or Asim—my apologies if I’m spelling it wrong) was excellent, and I truly felt that he cared about me as a patient. The day before, I saw another dentist at a different clinic who quickly looked at my tooth and told me I needed a root canal and crown, quoting me over $1,700 with my Aetna High Dental PPO. In contrast, Dr. Azim took his time to properly assess my broken tooth. He did a careful exam—some scraping and tapping—and since I wasn’t in pain, he explained that I might not actually need a root canal. He basically saved my tooth and my wallet—lol. Their clinic also doesn’t overcharge. Truly a blessing. I did have to come back the next day because there was an issue with the temporary crown that was supposed to be placed during my first visit. I realized when I got home that it wasn’t actually there, which meant my tooth was left exposed. To be fair, the first dental assistant was pleasant, and I could tell she was trying her best—she may have been time-pressured since it was close to closing. When I first called about the issue, there seemed to be some miscommunication, and I was initially given information that didn’t align with what Dr. Azim had explained regarding the temporary crown. However, after I clarified that a temporary crown had been planned, they were very accommodating and asked me to come in right away. That said, they handled the situation really well. I was able to get an appointment the very next day within minutes of calling, and I was seen by another excellent dentist, Dr. Bursik (again, apologies if I’m spelling the name wrong). Dr. Bursik and his assistant were amazing—professional, kind, and efficient. The assistant was gentle and clearly very skilled; she was able to properly fit the temporary crown in just a couple of minutes, which was the complete opposite of my initial experience. Overall, despite the hiccup, I truly appreciate how the clinic handled the issue and the level of care provided by both dentists. I’ve already booked an appointment for my husband, and we will definitely be repeat customers!Posted on hannah stevensTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I am so happy with this dentist office!! Dr. Tammareddy was able to fit me in for a 9am emergency filling appointment that I booked at 10pm the night before. The fillings were done perfectly and she made me feel at ease through the whole process once I made her aware that I am not a fan of going to the dentist. She walked me through everything she was going to do and kept making sure I felt okay during the filling. I also loved the rest of the office staff!! Everyone was so welcoming and kind!!Posted on Robin ThomasTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It's a good dentist, the staff are awesomePosted on Ray XuTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Had a major billing communication issue where the front desk collected a family member's balance without my consent. However, the Office Manager Sarah reached out immediately, apologized, and resolved the situation professionally by refunding the charge and separating our accounts. I appreciate the swift resolution, but I hope they improve their front desk protocols.Posted on D. Paul JenningsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Dr. Bursich and his staff have been taking good care of me and my wife for years.
